The update will incorporate a number of features we’ve already told you about, including support for Intel Atom Pine Trail and VIA C7-M processors. But there are two major new features: The web app platform will be based on the Google Chrome browser rather than Mozilla Prism There’s a new desktop mode designed for nettops and other computers with screens larger than 11 inches The desktop mode makes a lot of sense, since there are plenty of nettops out there with the same guts as netbooks (Intel Atom processors, Windows XP or 7, integrated graphics or NVIDIA ION)

Mobile Phone Patent Attack Details

You might think that Apple going after HTC over 20 patents was what it was all about, but when you look at the bigger picture you can see that everybody seems like they are after everybody for various legal reasons. The chart above (and larger below) shows who is after who at the moment with Cisco attacking Apple, Apple attacking HTC, ELAN, Nokia and Kodak going for Apple and a whole lot in between. According to the NY Times , these sorts of patent disputes are not uncommon although a few larger cases we have heard of recently have shed a little more interest from the media in to what’s going on.

LG Windows Phone 7 Series device to be called Panther

Several days ago, Engadget managed to capture on video a new, kind of mysterious, Windows Phone 7 Series phone that was claimed to be the first handset to be made available. We are now hearing that the handset will be called the LG Panther . No other details on the phone are known other than what we obviously see in the picture of it in that it has a full QWERTY keyboard that slides out the left side of the device along with a large touchscreen, three physical buttons below the screen that are mandatory on all Windows Phone 7 Series handsets and we assume a 1GHz Snapdragon processor that is also mandatory.
